Authors can keep track of their citations and set notifications by creating a ‘Citation Alert’ in IEEE Xplore. To set up a citation alert, follow these simple steps:

  1. Sign in to IEEE Xplore using your IEEE personal account.
  2. Go to the article you would like to track.
  3. Click the bell-shaped alerts icon in the top right action menu, just above the abstract.
  4. Choose ‘Add to Citation Alerts’ to complete your request.
  5. You will receive an alert via email whenever the article is cited.

Once you set up the alert, you can select ‘Manage Citation Alerts’ to see all of your citation alerts that you have set up.

To view your citation alerts at a later time, select ‘My Settings’ from the top navigation bar, then select ‘Alerts’ from the drop-down menu. There you will see many different alerts, and select ‘Citation’ to view all your citation alerts. There, you can remove any by selecting the ‘X’ icon to the right of the article name. To add it back, follow the instructions above.

About IEEE Institutional OA Agreements

Your institution has an OA publishing agreement with IEEE that makes it easier and more convenient for authors to publish open access. This type of agreement often includes a number of pre-paid article processing charges (APCs) to allow researchers to publish open access in eligible titles. Some institutional agreements have internal processes approving the use of APCs or limitations on the number of APCs available or the type of journals they can be used in. Please speak to your University Librarian or Open Access Administrator for more details and to check availability. Additional information can be found above regarding your institution’s OA agreement.
