IFRS

The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) was created on December 29, 2008, by law 11.892, which established a total of 38 Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology. By law, the IFRS is a federal agency linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC). It enjoys prerogatives with administrative, patrimonial, financial, didactic-scientific and disciplinary autonomy. It belongs to the Federal Network of Professional and Technological Education. The Institute currently has 17 campuses: Alvorada, Bento Gonçalves, Canoas, Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Farroupilha, Feliz, Ibirubá, Osório, Porto Alegre, Restinga (Porto Alegre), Rio Grande, Rolante, Sertão, Vacaria, Veranópolis and Viamão. The Rectory is headquartered in Bento Gonçalves.

The IFRS, through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with IFRS. Please use the correct institution name and your institutional email address during submi​​ssion. It is recommended for authors to select the CC BY 4.0 license. The open access funding request will be approved by an OA administrator at CAPES. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.

About IEEE Institutional OA Agreements

Your institution has an OA publishing agreement with IEEE that makes it easier and more convenient for authors to publish open access. This type of agreement often includes a number of pre-paid article processing charges (APCs) to allow researchers to publish open access in eligible titles. Some institutional agreements have internal processes approving the use of APCs or limitations on the number of APCs available or the type of journals they can be used in.
