Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) is a multi-disciplinary University with shipping, logistics and oceanography as its specialty disciplines, with engineering, management, economics, law, Literature, Science, art and other disciplines. The university has obtained the Seaman Education and Training Quality System Certificate of the People’s Republic of China and the Norske Veritas ISO9001 quality Assurance certificate. It has been selected as one of the universities in the “Excellent Engineer Education And Training Program” of the Ministry of Education, one of the universities receiving Chinese Government Scholarship for International students and one of the first demonstration universities in Deepening innovation and Entrepreneurship Education reform in Shanghai.

At present the university runs 3 post-doctoral research stations, 17 doctoral programs, 63 master’s degree programs, 49 bachelor’s degree programs, and 13 associate degree programs. SMU boasts 16 provincial and ministerial key research institutes and laboratories, 1 state-level key discipline, 5 state-level specialties with special features, 9 ministerial or municipal key disciplines, and 17 Shanghai municipal “educational heights”. Besides,engineering discipline of SMU has ranked top 1% in ESI ranking across the globe. SMU owns a newly-built 48-thousand-ton Yangtze handymax bulk carrier for teaching and internship training ship, named Yuming ship.

IEEE and DRAA, the Digital Resource Acquisition Alliance of Chinese Academic Libraries, have entered into an open access read and publish agreement. This agreement makes it more convenient for corresponding authors to publish open access articles with IEEE’s industry leading journals and magazines as eligible authors pay reduced article processing charges (APCs) and may have the opportunity to pay no APCs as some of these costs are waived under the agreement.
