The Federal University of Itajubá (Unifei), founded in 1913 as the Instituto Eletrotécnico e Mecânico de Itajubá – IEMI. The competence and knowledge acquired in more areas of training will lead to the development of its original course in independent courses of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, with special emphasis on the emphasis on Eletrotécnica e Mecânica Plena. Its postgraduate courses began in 1968, with masters in Electrical Engineering, Mechanics and Biomedicine, the latter later discontinued. In response to the evolution of technology and the expansion of the new areas covered by Engineering, UNIFEI expanded its emphasis in 1980, including Production, a Mechanical Engineering course, and Eletrônica, a Electrical Engineering course.

The Univ Federal de Engenharia de Itajubá (UNIFEI), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with Univ Federal de Engenharia de Itajubá (UNIFEI). Please use the correct institution name and your institutional email address during submi​​ssion. It is recommended for authors to select the CC BY 4.0 license. The open access funding request will be approved by an OA administrator at CAPES. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.
