Founded in 1967, the University of Caxias do Sul is a Community Institution of Higher Education (ICES), with direct operations in the northeast region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It is maintained by the University of Caxias do Sul Foundation, a legal entity under Private Law. It is affiliated with the Consortium of Community Universities of Rio Grande do Sul – COMUNG; the Brazilian Association of Community Universities – ABRUC; the Council of Rectors of Brazilian Universities – CRUB; and the Forum of Higher Education Institutions of Rio Grande do Sul.

The Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with Universidade de Caxias do Sul (UCS). The open access funding request will be approved by an OA administrator at CAPES. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.
