Unimontes is the result of the transformation of the North Minas Gerais Higher Education Foundation – FUNM –, created on May 24, 1962. It is a special regime autonomous entity of the state of Minas Gerais, as per paragraph 3 of article 82 of the “Act of Transitory Provisions of the Constitution of the State of Minas Gerais”, promulgated on September 21, 1989. The university’s regular undergraduate courses are distributed across four centers, in the areas of humanities, biological and health sciences, exact and technological sciences, and applied social sciences. In addition to the undergraduate courses at the main campus, Unimontes offers courses in Agronomy, Pedagogy, and Animal Science at the Janaúba campus.

The Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros (UNIMONTES), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros (UNIMONTES). Please use the correct institution name and your institutional email address during submi​​ssion. It is recommended for authors to select the CC BY 4.0 license. The open access funding request will be approved by an OA administrator at CAPES. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.
