The State University of Ponta Grossa, located in the south-central region of the state, covering 22 municipalities in its area of ​​influence, was created by the Government of the State of Paraná, through Law no. 6,034, of November 6, 1969, and Decree no. 18,111, of January 28, 1970, is one of the most important higher education institutions in Paraná, which resulted from the incorporation of the already existing State Colleges that operated separately.

The Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals.
