The Federal University of Alfenas – UNIFALMG, is a federal higher education institution, headquartered and with jurisdiction in the
Municipality of Alfenas, Minas Gerais, created by Law No. 11,154, of July 29, 2005, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on August 1, 2006, through the transformation of the Alfenas School of Pharmacy and Dentistry, founded April 3, 1914, federalized by Law No. 3,854, of December 18, 1960, constituted as a special regime autarchy by Decree No. 70,686, of June 7, 1972, and accredited as a Federal University Center, according to Ordinance No. 2,101, of October 1, 2001, of the Ministry of Education.

The Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL).
