Founded on December 23, 1960, the institution currently offers more than 90 undergraduate courses, 45 master’s degrees and 24 doctoral courses, in addition to specializations and residencies in the areas of health, management and teaching. The institution is also responsible for the Colégio de Aplicação João XXIII, offering fundamental and medium education, and the University Hospital, managed by the Brazilian Hospital Services Company (Ebserh). Established as a research and extension center, UFJF seeks to train ethical, critical, high-quality professionals to work both in the labor market and in academia, and committed to a more fair and equal society.

The Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (UFJF). The open access funding request will be approved by an OA administrator at CAPES. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.
