Located in the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul, in the city of Pelotas, 250 km from Porto Alegre, the state capital, the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPEL) was established in 1969. Its history dates back to the Rural University of the South (URS), whose founding in 1960 resulted from the efforts of professors from the Eliseu Maciel School of Agronomy, who had been campaigning for its creation since 1957.

UFPEL has 22 academic units and offers 103 on-campus undergraduate programs, including bachelor’s degrees, licentiate degrees, technologist degrees, and distance learning programs, across 117 campuses. Graduate programs include 26 doctoral programs, 50 master’s degrees, six professional master’s programs, and 34 specialization programs. In the research field, 2,698 projects are underway across various fields of knowledge, in addition to thousands of outreach projects aimed at integrating the university into the local community.

The Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPEL), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with Universidade Federal de Pelotas (UFPEL). Please use the correct institution name and your institutional email address during submi​​ssion. It is recommended for authors to select the CC BY 4.0 license. The open access funding request will be approved by an OA administrator at CAPES. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.

About IEEE Institutional OA Agreements
