The Federal University of Paraná is the oldest university in Brazil and a symbol of Curitiba. Steeped in a history of struggles and achievements since 1912, UFPR is a reference in higher education for the state and for Brazil. Its 100 years of history are marked by perseverance and resistance. UFPR is the greatest creation of Paraná culture, having been elected a symbol of Curitiba. Fruit of the audacity of its creators, UFPR is the oldest university in Brazil and a source of pride for all people of Paraná.

The Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027.
