Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)

On September 7, 1920, through Decree No. 14,343, the federal government created its first university: the University of Rio de Janeiro (URJ). The path to creating universities in the country was long: unlike other colonial areas, in Brazil, universities and higher education courses were prohibited by law, and the children of the colonial and imperial elites went to European universities, mainly Coimbra, to complete their studies in Law and Medicine. Registered in the top ten positions of several academic rankings in Latin America, UFRJ currently has 176 undergraduate courses and 232 master’s and doctoral courses. According to the 2019 Folha University Ranking, UFRJ is the most innovative university in the country, which is also due to its plurality: it has more than 4,000 professors, 65,000 students, 3,000 employees who work in hospitals, and 5,000 administrative technicians.

About IEEE Institutional OA Agreements

Your institution has an OA publishing agreement with IEEE that makes it easier and more convenient for authors to publish open access. This type of agreement often includes a number of pre-paid article processing charges (APCs) to allow researchers to publish open access in eligible titles. Some institutional agreements have internal processes approving the use of APCs or limitations on the number of APCs available or the type of journals they can be used in. Please speak to your University Librarian or Open Access Administrator for more details and to check availability. Additional information can be found above regarding your institution’s OA agreement.
