UFRPE has 111 years of tradition in teaching, extension and research in the state and in the country. Its centuries-old history is marked, at the same time, by the capacity for innovation in seeking to contribute to overcoming socio-environmental problems and sustainable development in projects and research involving technological, agricultural, human, social and exact sciences.

Inaugurated with the courses in Veterinary Medicine and Agronomy, the new profile of the Institution includes 55 undergraduate courses, including Administration, Economics, Physical Education, Gastronomy, Information Systems, Computer Science and various Engineering courses, on the Recife campus and in the Academic Units of Belo Jardim (UABJ), Serra Talhada (UAST) and Cabo de Santo Agostinho (UACSA), in addition to Distance Education (UAEADTec).

In the postgraduate program, it stands out in the production of research with 58 master’s and doctorate degrees. It also offers High School and technical courses at the Dom Agostinho Ikas Agricultural College (Codai).

The Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE), through the national contract between CAPES and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between 5 November 2024 – 30 October 2027.
