Founded in 1920 as the “Regio Istituto Superiore Navale”, that is, as the Royal Naval Technical Institute of the Kingdom of Italy. Initially, its purpose was to be a “support” institute for the promotion of studies aimed at improving maritime economy and naval technology. In the 1930s it was further enlarged and improved, and its name was changed first to Istituto Universitario Navale (1940), then to Universita’ di Napoli “Parthenope” (2001). Articulated in 7 Departments and Specialised in Business, Economics, Law, Engineering, Science and Technology, Sport Sciences.

The Università degli studi di Napoli “Parthenope” through the national contract between CRUI and IEEE has an unlimited open access agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles as open access without open access fees in all IEEE fully and hybrid open access journals. The agreement applies to all original research articles accepted for publication between August 1, 2022 and December 31, 2024.
