Founded in 1834, the University of Bern is a German-language comprehensive university located in the city of Bern in the bilingual canton of Bern (Switzerland). With about 20,000 students in eight faculties, about 160 institutes and nine inter- and transdisciplinary competence centers, the University of Bern is a place of interdisciplinary teaching and research. The five thematic foci of the University of Bern are: Sustainability, Health and Medicine, Matter and Universe, Intercultural Knowledge, and Politics and Administration. In selected research areas such as space research, the University of Bern occupies a leading international position. The University Library of Bern covers the article processing charge (APC) for a limited number of articles to allow researchers of the University of Bern to publish their papers in the IEEE Open Access journals.

The Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries (CSAL) has an agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles without open access fees (APCs) in all IEEE fully Open Access journals, hybrid journals are not included. The agreement applies to all articles accepted for publication between 1.1.2022 and 31.12.2024. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with one of the participating institutions. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.

About IEEE Institutional OA Agreements

Your institution has an OA publishing agreement with IEEE that makes it easier and more convenient for authors to publish open access. This type of agreement often includes a number of pre-paid article processing charges (APCs) to allow researchers to publish open access in eligible titles. Some institutional agreements have internal processes approving the use of APCs or limitations on the number of APCs available or the type of journals they can be used in. Please speak to your University Librarian or Open Access Administrator for more details and to check availability. Additional information can be found above regarding your institution’s OA agreement.
