With more than 14,000 students and around 3,400 employees, the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest multi-disciplinary universities of applied sciences in Switzerland. In our work in research and development, the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences concentrates on important societal challenges, with a particular focus on energy and social integration. With locations in Winterthur, Zurich and Wädenswil, the ZHAW is firmly integrated in the local region whilst also collaborating with international partners.

In its policy for research and development, ZHAW has committed itself to Open Science and Open Innovation movements, and to pursuing its own research and development activities in accordance with the goals of these movements. We are active in developing new and improving established services to support our researchers, staff and students in their Open Access and Open Science activities. In particular, the ZHAW university library maintains an institutional repository ZHAW digitalcollection and supports various ways of Open Access publishing.

The Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries (CSAL) has an agreement with IEEE that enables researchers to publish articles without open access fees (APCs) in all IEEE fully Open Access journals, hybrid journals are not included. The agreement applies to all articles accepted for publication between 1.1.2022 and 31.12.2024. To benefit from this agreement, the corresponding author has to be affiliated with one of the participating institutions. Overlength page charges or color fees are not covered by the agreement and will be charged to authors.
