The JKU has been around for 50 years, making it a comparatively young university. Today, the university offers over 70 academic degree programs in 4 faculties, 4 schools and over 120 institutes. The university employs over 2,700 people and over 20,000 students are currently enrolled. Their drive, curiosity, and creativity align with those of the university’s namesake, Johannes Kepler, who lived and worked in Linz between 1612 and 1627. The JKU combines the past and the present and, as Upper Austria’s largest institution of research and education, the university continues to forge ahead and shape the future.
In 2015 the JKU has signed the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Scientific Knowledge and the university library is committed to helping university employees and students publish open access articles and materials and supports scientific authors at the JKU by providing funding options like publishing agreements.
