IEEE Open Access Author Workflow

Publishing with IEEE is simple and authors can navigate the required submission steps with ease. More than 50 IEEE publications use the IEEE Author Portal and more than 100 IEEE publications use the ScholarOne submission system. Understanding how to navigate the submission system gets you on the path to publishing with IEEE. Please follow the below steps to help guide you through the process.

1) Find your desired publication on IEEE Xplore and click on ‘Submit Manuscript’. This will take you to your desired publication’s submission site.
2) Look in the top left-hand corner to see if your submission site is titled ‘IEEE Author Portal’ or “ScholarOne Manuscripts’.
3) Select the video below that matches what your site looks like and your respective language. The video will show a typical author workflow when publishing with IEEE. Please note: All videos are spoken in English, but closed captions are available in additional languages.

4) Check if your institution has an agreement with IEEE: https://open.ieee.org/for-institutions/institutional-partners/.

5) If your institution has an agreement which will fund your article charge, a funding request will automatically be sent to your institution for review. Manuscripts are matched to an institution’s profile based on the email domain and/or Ringgold ID provided during the submission process.

If you are prompted to complete a funding request from your institution, follow Video 2 below for steps on how to seek funding from your institution. This video shows the steps on using the CCC RightsLink site for a typical workflow for authors. This process also applies for overlength or color page charges. Select the closed caption of choice by hitting the cc icon on the bottom right-hand side.
