IEEE Celebrates Open Access Week

IEEE Celebrates Open Access Week 1460 440 IEEE Open

IEEE continually strives to support the global publishing community by providing authors with a wide range of options and choices to publish in, whether it be a traditional or fully open access journal. With an expanding portfolio of options, IEEE continues to support open science and provide more options and choices to support the work and needs of all authors and researchers. IEEE is committed to working with institutions and funders to provide sustainable open access publishing opportunities to authors that allow for a wider dissemination of knowledge and enable authors to maximize exposure of their research. As a supporter of open science, IEEE joins in the celebration of International Open Access Week October 19–25, 2026.

How to Publish Open Access with IEEE Webinar Series

To provide authors with important information on how to publish open access, IEEE hosts open access authorship webinars for regions all over the world. In a recent webinar, now available to view for free on demand, authors were provided with best practices in preparing a manuscript, navigating the journal submission process, and important tips to help an author get published. It also reviewed opportunities for authors and academic institutions to enhance the visibility and impact of their research by publishing in the many open access options available from IEEE. This session featured insights from Dr. Frede Blaabjerg of Aalborg University in Denmark—a distinguished author, editor, professor, and research scientist currently ranked by Research.com as the world’s leading researcher in electronics and electrical engineering.

IEEE has Over 750 Institutional Open Access Agreements

Did you know that over 750 institutions now have open access agreements with IEEE? IEEE offers open access programs designed to make managing open access agreements convenient for institutions and funders, and simplify the publishing process by paying for article processing charges (APCs) in advance.

IEEE has flexible options for any size organization, designed to make it easy for institutions to assist their authors and demonstrate their support for open access.

IEEE Announced 2 New Fully Open Access Journals and 6 Hybrid Journals Launched in 2025, 2026, and 2027

20+ IEEE Fully Open Access Journals Have Received Impact Factors:

The annual JCR study examines the influence and impact of scholarly research and offers a well-established, objective means to evaluate the world’s leading journals. By compiling articles’ cited references, the JCR’s Journal Impact Factor (JIF) is one of several measurements available to authors to gauge quality, impact, and trustworthiness of publications. These measurements are especially important to help new authors navigate the publications landscape as they make important decisions as to where to publish their research and helps them avoid journals of a predatory nature. Each year, IEEE journals continue to excel in the citation rankings across multiple technology fields.

The IEEE fully open access journals that were awarded their first Journal Impact Factors and accepted into the Web of Science Core Collection™ in 2026 are:

This is in addition to 19 other IEEE fully open access journals that received their first Journal Impact Factors in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

About IEEE Institutional OA Agreements

Your institution has an OA publishing agreement with IEEE that makes it easier and more convenient for authors to publish open access. This type of agreement often includes a number of pre-paid article processing charges (APCs) to allow researchers to publish open access in eligible titles. Some institutional agreements have internal processes approving the use of APCs or limitations on the number of APCs available or the type of journals they can be used in. Please speak to your University Librarian or Open Access Administrator for more details and to check availability. Additional information can be found above regarding your institution’s OA agreement.
